
My goal over the next few weeks is to get some good photos (without disturbing her). Hopefully I can get some as she hatches and raises here chicks. I haven't seen the nest without her in it, so I have no idea how many eggs are there.
This blog is mostly just a record of the photographs I have been taking. It gives a bit of a view of what I have been up to lately, as I have learned to take my camera most everywhere. If you click on any picture that looks interesting, you can see it in a lot more detail. Steve Joyce

Sandhill cranes lay 2 eggs. Incubation takes 28-30 days, and once the second chick has hatched (usually 2 or 3 days after the first one), they all walk away. The older chick often bullies the younger, so one parent walks one way and one another, with one chick following each. That brown look comes from preening feathers with a muddy bill.
